Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Local television serves as a powerful medium for preserving and promoting cultural heritage. In Gombe North Local Government Area, Gombe State, cultural festivals play a vital role in fostering community identity, unity, and economic growth. Local television stations provide a platform to showcase these festivals, celebrating traditional music, dance, and rituals while educating younger generations about their cultural roots. Research shows that televised coverage of cultural events enhances public awareness and participation, contributing to the sustainability of cultural practices (Adamu & Ibrahim, 2023; Yusuf, 2024). However, the extent to which local television effectively promotes cultural festivals in Gombe North remains underexplored. This study investigates the impact of local television on promoting cultural festivals in the region, highlighting its successes and challenges.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the growing presence of local television stations, many cultural festivals in Gombe North LGA face declining participation and visibility.
